Meet hashtag#MedCat Anna Golebiewski, a PhD candidate in cellular and molecular medicine, who was recognized with the College of Medicine – Tucson Peer Mentoring Award. 👏

Nominated by both her PI, Casey Romanoski, PhD, and a fellow PhD student she mentored, the honor holds special meaning for her.

“Some of the most rewarding work I’ve done in my PhD so far is mentoring,” she shared. “Even if it adds more to my plate, it’s important to me to build those skills so when I have my own lab, I’m equipped to be a successful mentor and PI.”

Passionate about genetics and personalized medicine, Golebiewski’s research focuses on how natural genetic variation affects endothelial cells. She’s also helping lead the new Cellular and Molecular Medicine Graduate Student Committee to strengthen student-faculty communication.

“I love learning and I hope to always be learning in my career,” she said. “It felt natural to pursue my PhD, and I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by mentors who make it clear how valuable that support can be.”
