Description

The Educational Leadership program offers both Doctorate of Education and Master of Education degrees. The focus of the cohort-based doctoral program is to prepare scholar leaders in education to achieve results in the nation's schools by
  • translating theory and knowledge into practice.
  • applying skills in interpersonal relations and political diplomacy.
  • applying research and data-based decision making skills.
  • following ethical principles.
Graduates will be able to adapt to a changing world, predict the consequences of proposed action, and sustain continuous education improvements over time. The development of skills and qualities that will enhance the ability of leaders to empower, inspire, and guide the performance of others in achieving the desired goals of a school, a school district or a community directs program content. A master's degree and a graduate grade point average of 3.5 are required for admission to the doctoral program. A Graduate Record Examination score of at least 1100 is also required. Beyond these minimal requirements, applicants must also meet other specific requirements. Enrollment is limited and the meeting of program standards does not guarantee admission. Students are admitted once per year in cohort groups of 15-20 students. Students interested in applying should contact the departmental Graduate Coordinator. The masters degree program is designed for aspiring educational leaders who wish to advance their careers with administrative certification. The program will emphasize leadership practices that improve professional relationships, decision-making and the ability to facilitate educational reform. Through coursework in foundations, law, administration, supervision, finance, and personnel, student learning outcomes will include the ability to
  • propose means for facilitating the success of all students by understanding, responding to, and influencing the social, cultural, and legal aspects of the community.
  • formulate plans for communicating organizational purpose and priorities to school staffs community groups, and the news media.
  • identify theories, models of organizations, strategies, and resources for effectively managing services, programs, operations, and human and material resources in an educational setting.
  • develop a strategic plan that demonstrates knowledge of curriculum and instructional models for the purposes of enhancing teaching and learning.
  • participate in an array of capstone course experiences such as action research projects, evaluation of specified research-based curricula, or evidence-based school practices, and others.
A Bachelor's degree and an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 are required for admission. In addition, current or previous administrative/management/supervisory/leadership experience is required.
